Effectiveness Of Chlorhexidine Oral Rinse In Preventing Plaque Accumulation And Gingivitis In Patients Undergoing Orthodontic Treatment- A Systematic Review And Meta Analysis

Aim: The aim of this review was to systematically assess and report the effectiveness chlorhexidine (CHX) mouthwash in preventing plaque accumulation gingivitis patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Material Methods: prepared according Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews (PRISMA) guidelines registered under PROSPERO database (CRD42020170776). Four electronic databases were searched along with a complimentary manual search journals until June 2022. Only Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) reporting on antiplaque antigingivitis efficacy Chlorhexidine compared placebo or control included. Risk bias assessment done using Cochrane ROB-2. Quantitative analysis (Random-Effects Model Standard Mean Difference (SMD)) 95 % confidence interval used. Results: Six RCTs included qualitative four quantitative total 211 participants. Out six studies, 3 judged have low risk bias, two had some concerns one them high bias. Random effects meta-analysis performed anti-plaque effect reported significant reduction -1.2 SMD CHX at 4 6 weeks heterogeneity (I2-35%). anti-gingivitis -1.03 moderate (I2-65%). Conclusion: On analyzing available evidence level certainty supports short-term subjected rinsing oral rinse.
